More Great Books to Read With Your Girl

Parent & Daughter Book Clubs — you asked for more book recommendations, and we heard you!

Where the Flame Trees Bloom by Alma Flor Ada – This is a collection of eleven true stories by the same author who wrote My Name is Maria Isabel. Alma Flor Ada writes from the point of view of herself as a child, narrating stories about her childhood and family life in Cuba.

Keena Ford and the Second Grade Mix-Up by Melissa Thomson – In this story, Keena’s teacher mistakenly believes that it is Keena’s birthday. As the celebrations begin, Keena struggles to find the words to tell the truth. This book is part of a series about Keena.

Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry – Gooney Bird is a new girl in the second grade, and she tells the most outrageous stories. Each day, students and teacher alike listen attentively to Gooney Bird’s humorous and incredible tales. Their lives seem boring in comparison, until Gooney Bird shows them how to find the stories in their own experiences. This book is part of a series about Gooney Bird. A good choice for kids who liked the Ramona Quimby books.

This Girls Leadership Facebook post about comics for teens & tweens included great suggestions from our community.

Great recommendations! Sticking with the same theme, if you love fantasy and want a book for young girls in which they can learn lessons of life and friendship, read my book ‘The Thorn Queen’ on my website, whyismud.com!
