Dear Friends,
Are you as excited for summer as we are? Most of us here in the GLI offices are finishing up our summer camp planning, getting our summer hair cuts and packing our bags for two months on the east coast. Before the campers arrive we have an action-packed week of staff training for our thirty summer camp counselors and our new teachers from California, Colorado and New York. Forty dedicated professionals will enjoy five days of the latest girl world theory, tons of practice teaching and, of course, GLI signature game playing at least twice daily. Read below to get to know this amazing team.
As we gear up for summer we already have any eye on our busy fall season. Read below to learn about opportunities to join our programs in Colorado— there is something for everyone from kindergarteners to teachers! But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s enjoy these long days, warm sun, and the awesome girls in our lives.
All my best,
Simone Marean

Fall Programs Are Open in Colorado
Colorado has officially opened registration for Fall 2011 workshops for elementary and middle school girls and parents! As workshops are already filling, we recommend checking them out soon so you can secure your participation in the programs that are best for your family. Colorado will be introducing a K/1 Real Parents, Real Daughters workshop and after school programs this year. Please check our website often for the most up-to-date information.
Girl Meets World Curriculum Training
GLI is taking our Girl Meets World curriculum training to the next level this fall — literally! We’re headed up the mountain to beautiful Boulder, Colorado for three days of curriculum training with Rachel Simmons. This fun, interactive small group program trains participants to deliver the highest quality social-emotional education for girls. You will learn the latest research on girls’ development and the best teaching practices from the Girls Leadership Institute workshops and summer camps. The training will take place Monday, October 3 — Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Boulder Country Day School. Space is limited and this is the only curriculum training session left in 2011, so click here to apply or to learn more!
Club Real Girl — A Real Success
GLI recently completed an afterschool program at Oak Knoll Elementary in Menlo Park, California. The 4th and 5th graders became experts in games such as Sheep, What Are You Doing, and Lemonade. In addition to having tons of fun, the girls learned many GLI tools. These tools included ways to share thoughts and feelings, ways to say ‘sorry’ and a problem solving technique called GIRL. At the end of the program, they created a book that explained each tool and how to use it, including included many ways to navigate the tricky and wonderful world of friendships.
Spring Breakfast in New York
On May 18, GLI board members and friends hosted a breakfast in New York City featuring Rachel Simmons’ discussion of girls and leadership. GLI camp alumni Julia and Muriel talked about the tools camp gave them to find more authentic ways to meet challenges in relationships and school. GLI made new friends and expanded our support for summer camp. Thanks to those who joined us!
