Dear Friends,

Happy camp season! We have 250 girls participating in GLI Summer Camps this year, from California to Massachusetts. At Day Camp, our youngest girls are already forming amazing communities and taking the risk of being true to themselves. Is there any better preparation for middle school? Check out our Facebook page to catch a glimpse of the GLI camp magic. At Mount Holyoke College we are just getting settled in and warming up for staff training and our residential Summer Camp.
The transformative power of GLI Summer Camp takes effect before our campers arrive because it begins with our staff. What makes our staff so strong isn’t just their training and professionalism, but who these women are as people. We recruit authentic women who aren’t afraid to take risks and embarrass themselves or talk about their mistakes. We hire women who can teach our campers to live as leaders because they themselves practice leadership every day. Get to know these incredible women through their bios.
I wish you a summer filled with lazy mornings, late evenings enjoying the light, and moments spent with the girls in your life just being yourselves.
All my best,
Simone Marean
Executive Director and Co-Founder

Just $4,000 Away
SANY0236_copyGLI has raised close to $80,000 in the last three months for Summer Camp scholarships! That deserves a big GLI WHOOSH! Thank you to all of our generous donors for helping GLI send sixty-five deserving girls to camp. While we are still $4,000 away from hitting our target, we are confident that we will get there, making this a record-breaking year. If you haven’t already given, please make a donation to help us reach our goal. You can look forward to hearing from some of our campers in upcoming newsletters. Thanks again to all of you who have supported this campaign; you’re amazing, just like our girls!

This Year in Numbers

campers arms up june 2013It’s hard to distill a year at GLI into numbers. We prefer to count the “aha!” moments, the risks taken, and the level of laughter in our workshops. Until we find a laughing meter, here is how we can summarize this year for you:

  • 1500 families participated in our parent-daughter programs
  • 112 girls joined us for day camp, half of them on full scholarship
  • 60 educators participated in our 3-day intensive training
  • 180 girls will live with us for three weeks at our life-changing residential camp
  • Over 2500 parents attended a Raising Resilient Girls parent education night

Over 6,500 people across the country participated in Girls Leadership Institute programs this year! That is how we change the face of leadership.

A Mother’s Gratitude

Your generous contributions have enabled us to provide deserving girls with Summer Camp scholarships –– scholarships that make a world of difference to the girls and their families. Robin, the mother of two past scholarship recipients, says it best:

“It is with huge gratitude that I write you this note and thank you from the bottom of my heart. The gift of a scholarship for both my girls was a dream come true. It is hard being a single mom, wanting to make the best choices for my kids, yet with limited resources. I am so proud of my girls and the young ladies they have become, and your program has been the main contributor to helping them become such confident girls.

“At GLI Summer Camp, my daughters made new friends, met new mentors, and expanded their horizons. We live in a small town where much of life is fairly predictable. Traveling to the East Coast from Montana was scary for my girls, but both felt self-assured by the time they returned. They had a blast and are still talking about it.

“I want my girls to know that all things are possible if you are willing to travel out of your comfort zone. Thank you to all who support this wonderful experience.”
