Monica Cortez

California Program Manager

Monica is a first-generation Filipina-American born in Daly City and raised in Fairfield, CA. She’s a proud Aggie and received her Bachelor of Science in Human Development at UC Davis. After college, she worked as a Registered Behavior Technician providing in-home ABA therapy for children on the spectrum. After receiving her yoga teacher certification, Monica served as a Mindfulness Educator for youth in elementary and middle school. Monica is thrilled to join the Girls Leadership team and share her passion for social and emotional wellbeing as a way to empower girls’ voices and leadership.

Monica enjoys live music, yoga, spending time in nature, and attending healing circles. The first healing circle she attended was a women’s circle in Oakland at the Redwood Regional Park. Since then, she’s been inspired and committed to sharing healing-centered practices to youth, women, and the Filipino/a/x community. In her free time, you can find Monica taking long strolls with her partner and their dog, thrifting unique finds, picnicking at the park, or exploring new coffee shops.
